Frequently Asked Questions

Do you have a question about the Chameleon system? Check here first to see if we've already answered it. If not, please feel free to contact us today for more information!

What is Chameleon?

The Chameleon is an integrated visual information system that enables you to create and display professional-looking, customized signs, messages and directories using just your computer and printer.

Two primary components form the basis of the Chameleon system. At its heart is the copyrighted Quick Sign Design (QSD) software. This easy-to-learn, easy-to-use program allows virtually anyone with a personal computer to tailor messages quickly and easily while adding in photos, artwork, logos, colors, symbols, and graphics to make your message pop.

The second Chameleon component consists of the main body, plus four elliptical, modular accent frames that can be added or deleted depending on your particular signage needs. The main body and each frame are covered by removable, non-glare protective lenses. The complete system can be displayed vertically or horizontally and is available in formats built for display on walls, on countertops and via floor stands.

When you order a Chameleon system, you will receive the QSD software, two reversible picture mats and twelve sheets of Chameleon paper for best-quality printing.

Are there other sizes available?

Currently, there is only one size (8 1/2" x 14") available for Chameleon. There are several solutions to sizing the Chameleon. To create a larger, rectangular image, you can matrix up to four signs together. For a smaller sign, you may use 8 1/2" x 11" paper with a mat around the outer edge. (Each Chameleon system comes with two reversible picture mats included.) Finally, you can also use any number of Chameleon signs in a side-by-side pattern to create a short — or long — horizontal or vertical message.

Can I get the software updated without buying another sign?

When you launch the Chameleon QSD software, you will see a button at the bottom that says "Check For Updates". Simply click this button and the most recent version of QSD will download and update the software automatically. If you are not in need of any updates for QSD it will state so.

Do I have to have a lot of computer experience?

In developing the QSD software, we tried to make it as user-friendly as possible and look as familiar to the user as other every day programs. With Chameleon's QSD, you don't have to be a graphic designer to look like one. One thing we encourage each new user to do is to jump in there and explore. The best way to learn your new software, is to simply play with it and don't be afraid.

How do I create vertical text?

To create a vertical text field, first select the text tool. Second, click on your sign and type a single letter. To go to the next line, hold down the control key and hit enter. This should result in vertical text.

Will it work with Macintosh?

The Chameleon Sign System is a great complement to many of the existing software packages that Mac users employ. QSD software can be used on a Macintosh using a software package known as VirtualPC®. Available in many computer software retail outlets, the software sells for approximately $230.  In addition, downloadable templates for the Chameleon system will be available for Mac users in the near term.

How do I import my logo into QSD?

First thing you need to do is make sure that the logo is saved as a jpeg or gif. Then save the logo at the size you want it to be when you place it in your sign. This can be done using photo editing software such as Paint Shop Pro. Next you will click the camera tool found in your tool box on the right. This will open a window that is the default to QSD's clipart library. You will need to navigate to the folder that contains your logo, select it and hit open. You will then need to click once anywhere on your page and QSD will drop the art into the sign.
